Southlake Sports – Dragon Tales: Meet Tariq Gordon

Tariq Gordon is an athlete with many different interests. On the football field, you can catch him playing cornerback or wide receiver for Carroll ISD. Off the field and on the track, he runs the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

Aside from all that, he is also a great student. “I really love reading. Whenever I’m bored at home, you can always catch me with a book in hand,” Tariq says. This self-proclaimed bookworm even hopes to study history in college.

His love of football developed at a young age, due in large part to the impressive career of his father Darrien Gordon. “I always watched my dad and said that I wanted to play football when I was older,” Tariq said.

Tariq also looks up to Coach Tony Holmes. “Coach Holmes has been my mentor away from home since eighth grade – in football as well as track,” Tariq said. “He helps instill that positive mindset in people that helps them reach their goals.”

Entering his last season as a Dragon, Tariq graciously accepts the responsibility of being a role model on and off the field. His football career has come a long way since starting flag football at six years old. As a senior he will embrace the leadership role his coaches are looking for, and he has decided to focus on one game at a time.

“I just hope to win that next game, whoever it is. If we do that, we will be successful.”

Stay tuned: Over the next several months, Update Southlake will focus on an outstanding Dragon athlete.
