To paint an intimate picture of Jack and Jackie Kennedy and their time spent in Fort Worth on the eve of the notorious motorcade through Dallas, Fort Worth Opera’s world premiere work JFK relies heavily on dream sequences to recall moments from the couple’s personal and political past.

Linking the real world with the subconscious throughout the opera is successfully accomplished thanks to a remarkable true story and the dedication of one of Fort Worth’s most recognizable women, Ruth Carter Stevenson.

Just five days before the President’s visit to the city, it was reported that Jack and Jackie’s room at the Hotel Texas was particularly nondescript. This stunning news set in motion a small group of Fort Worth residents, including Ruth Carter Stevenson, who agreed to curate a special exhibition of art works to adorn the Presidential Suite.

While decorating the President’s quarters at the hotel, the 16 selected works did so much more. They put Fort Worth’s rich cultural heritage on display and highlighted the tremendous hospitality of the residents of the city.

These works of art spring to life and become the portals to new worlds in Fort Worth Opera’s JFK.

As the opera continues to find life beyond the FWOpera Festival stage through subsequent performances with renowned opera companies such as Opéra de Montréal, this remarkable moment in Fort Worth’s history will be told on the world stage for generations to come.
