Summer Reading Special: Stories That Teens Can Share

Teenagers can be complex, but their reading habits are very simple. Their interests mainly lie with their friends, so a great way to get them to enjoy reading is by offering books that they’ll be able to talk about within their group.

Hot right now with the teen set is dystopian fiction. Many of these wildly popular books have been turned into movies with a huge following – The Hunger Games, The City of Ember, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The characters in these novels must fight for their own existence, and while this may sound sort of grim it’s inspiring in a complex way.

Of course, these books still have a relationship aspect and some drama, but that’s not the main focus. “These books are a perfect fit for teens in their social and personal life,” a local librarian said. “It lets them escape.”

Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty understands the value of nurturing a love of reading early in life. Each year, we support reading programs for children and adults throughout the area. For more information, click here.
